When planning ocean voyages, we sought information about the maximum wave heights occurring in specific areas during certain months of the year. Particularly, when preparing to cross the Atlantic during the summer months, we were interested in the maximum reach of dangerous waves generated by hurricanes.Ā

The charts display the maximum wave heights in meters (significant height of combined wind waves and swell) recorded in specific areas during each month from 1940 to 2023.

This time we're carrying a lot of luggage with us. We've been collecting all the necessary items throughout the year. At the last moment, we bought a cart, which greatly facilitated transporting this clutter "to the end of the world".Ā

Once again, returning to La Restinga. Locals jokingly say that we are already "like family." It helps a lot that since arriving here, we have been diligently learning Spanish and are already able to talk about many things. We understand how the Fishing Brotherhood can operate in the reserve—it unites people who fish using traditional methods, not with nets but with steel wire and hooks. Though less efficient, it causes no damage to the surrounding ecosystem. Our well-equipped yacht workshop helps us make friends, often lending fellow sea people various tools.

While staying in the Canary Islands, we discover that online shopping has its limits. Many companies simply do not sell items to this region—the difficulty of transport and the necessity of customs control make companies reluctant to send products there, and the stove we ordered took about 3 weeks to arrive. Electronic parts sent by FedEx did not arrive, and the seller had to send them again via UPS, which seems to be the most efficient there.

Vigo - La Restinga

Vaccinated and armed with Covid passports, we set off for Spain. Although Porto would be closer for us, we decided to minimize the number of borders crossed and flew to Madrid.Ā

This time we fly to the Netherlands by plane. We easily manage to get to the town of s’Gravendeel, but there we discover that there is no bus to our village on Sundays. A ten-kilometer walk with a two-and-a-half-year-old child and luggage doesn't appeal to us much. Fortunately, an elderly gentleman takes pity on us and gives us a ride to the port itself.Ā

We feel that the Baltic and the North Sea have many advantages, but they are cold, and we like to warm up during vacations. Hence, we decide to head south. Of course, we cannot sail to Spain or Portugal in one holiday season. At least not without rushing, exploring along the way.Ā  After years, we came to feel that in some places it was worth staying even a season or two longer. However, now we decide to head south.

In December, our daughter Kamilka is born. After what we saw in Sweden and Denmark, we know that with such a child we can easily sail, so we plan another trip - a loop around Norway. Stubborn gets two important pieces of equipment - radar and AIS.
